I’ve always had a radical approach to things and being a punk in the 1970’s embedded in me a real “DIY” ethos and as technology develops, the price and access to it increases AND the audience accepts that production values are NOT king alone; that content and authenticity are. I see huge opportunities and changes ahead.
The video job description is one. Not one produced by a “creative agency” but a “real one”. One which might even involve you going to the incumbent who has been with the company sometime, happy to talk about the job, their duties, why is it “great and fun” to be a part of the team and with the company. Wow what a great advocate. Now you can still have a link to the “corporate Job Spec” but a real person selling the job and the company. Real people, genuine marketing and messaging and delivered in an interesting way; a real referral.
Is this all possible – answer YES!
So what’s needed?
Digital Camera: cost £200. Sony & Cannon have products that fit the purpose.
Windows Movie Maker: cost - Free with MS Office or download here.
Now add to your Twitter, Linkedin or Facebook groups.
So what will stop you?
Fear – you’re right you are not a film director but neither am I but I make videos (see my work here). BUT we all make films on our holidays, theirs the wedding and even that dinner party. Yes these are private but social is about sharing, it’s about content and it’s about reality. Go social. Plus practice makes perfect.
Company politics – the corporate brand controllers may get in the way. Don’t let them stop you and show them the links below to organisations that are doing it now.
Line Managers - gain their trust, experiment, and show them the opportunity and benefit.
Your Staff - you can’t force anyone to do this but if you make it fun, show some examples of others who have (find some advocates) you will get buy in.
