Welcome to our summer Buzz, your dose of all things recruitment from around the world.
So the kids have broken up from school, the traffic is down 50%, the trains are half empty and the shops are full. Summer is here and I'm sure to many a welcome break but it's also a time if you are working to reflect, I always saw August as a "quite time" , time to prepare for the Autumn "pick up" and get some early thoughts together for the Oct "business planning season".
So what does 2011 hold for UK recruitment, well for me despite the public sector news I now believe we are on the road to a recruitment recovery, not double digit but a slow, sustainable pick up. So what does I base this on;
- Over 20 years I've been watching and monitoring various reports and when GDP hit 2.5% we see recruitment grow, so after last weeks 1% plus growth and forecasts of up to 2.5%+ growth in 2011 that metric is in place.
- Industry confidence REC/KPMG Survey's, CIPD, Robert Walters etc all point to growing confidence amongst Recruitment Consultancies and Companies. Now I accept we are an industry that "bigs it up" but have walked the floor of a number of recruitment firms last week all the consultants had better "books" IT and HR both seeing pick ups.
- Job volumes are picking up - see the Innovantage Report Q1&2.
My predictions for 2011 is;
-
A 3-5% recovery in the market value.
-
Job board revenues will grow,
-
Spend on some social media will increase
-
And surprisingly that regional press will see an increase in their market share.
Hope my early predictions help.
