Advice

June 29th, 2010 - The Buzz / Recruiting News & Advice

I decided that yesterdays Foreword (spelt correctly finally) for RMM was so good  that I've used it today. Modest I know!!

Well that wasn't too bad, was it? While Mr. Osborne wielded his new-look Tory-Lib "tough but fair" axe in last week's budget, announcing widespread cuts across the public sector, it felt like Gershon revisited.

In 2005 the Gershon review of government efficiency challenged HR departments across the public sector to reduce recruitment costs and streamline their own functions which - when revised in April - amounted to the tune of £2bn in. While this will invariably result in widespread recruitment freezes and cuts in agency spending, it will at least force public sector bodies to integrate e-recruitment practices into their HR strategy on an unprecedented scale. And there's a lot for them to get their heads around.

I recently interviewed Michelle Rea, an American living in Sweden, who happens to be that country's 'social recruiting expert'. During the interview she talked about Mobile, HR, Recruitment, Employer Branding, Engagement, On-Boarding and boy with so much passion.

Michelle's interview is below and is well worth a listen.

In contrast to all the doom and gloom talk of budget cuts it was great attending the latest Connecting HR 'tweet up' last Thursday in London and be part of the social HR buzz - courtesy of Jon Ingham, consultant and HRzone columnist, and Gareth Jones, Courtenay HR. Connecting. HR is like Twitter coming to life and it's great to see the way social communities create new opportunities to bring people from the virtual world together in an excellent pub in the West End - all power to social media and the effort people put in to make these type of events happen.

To see a great thread and some cool pics go to Twitter and hastag #connectingHR.

Lots going on in the media world. And for me, Mobile has got me all excited. But I want to extend the term mobile recruiting to Mobile HR, or HR Mobile.

So what was in yesterday's Recruitment Media Monday

    • Mobile HR? yes and a term you are going to hear more off...you heard it first here.
    • Print is dead, but the news is not going anywhere - great article below.
    • A divided Europe? Yes. Consumer spending is growing as is confidence but not across all Europe - will a recruitment recovery be uniform throughout the continent?
    • Public Relations becomes Community Relations - and a recruiter is now a PR, Marketing and Salesman all rolled into one.
    • Finally lots about mobile.

Enjoy.
